Tainan City-headquartered Sun Net Technology Corporation Ltd. and Auckland-based Huhu Studios Ltd. inked a Creative-Massive Open Online Courses and Digital Learning Animation Development Project Contract Sept. 16 at the Taiwan-New Zealand Digital Content Forum and Biz Matching in Taipei City.
Signed by Sun Net President Robert Huang and Huhu Studios Founder and CEO Trevor Yaxley, the pact aims to mate local digital learning know-how with New Zealand’s animation techniques and teaching experiences.
Sun Net, established in 1996, employs cutting-edge technology and tailored services to deliver value-added network services and e-learning solutions. Huhu, an international leader in computer-generated imagery, boasts 18 years experience and has produced more than 300 animated programs, distributed in over 1,000 cinemas worldwide.
Gary Gong, director of event organizer Digital Content Industry Promotion Office under the ROC Ministry of Economic Affairs, said the contract paves the way for Taiwan to cultivate talent in creative and design industries through expanded cooperation among universities and institutions from home and abroad.
“Taiwan’s strengths are in its cloud computing technology and New Zealand is famous for its film animation and special effects industry,” Gong said. “This collaboration will help springboard both sides into the international market for special effects and related industries.”
But this is not the first tie-up between Taiwan and the New Zealand firm. In September 2011, Kaohsiung City Government signed an agreement with Huhu to set up an R&D office at the Kaohsiung Software Technology Park and a production base at the Pier-2 Art Center.
Gong said the one-day forum is playing a key role in assisting local digital content industry players unlock international business opportunities.
“It is also attracting leading industry figures such as New Zealand Commerce and Industry Officer Liam Corkery, Flux Animation Studio Managing Director Brent Chambers and Reallusion Partnership Marketing Manager Enoc Burgos,” he added. (KML-JSM)
